My Mini Skills Journal - The journal works well alongside the Let’s Get Started pack of What’s your strength?® cards that were made in collaboration with Skills Builder to identify the essential skills young people have developed through their experiences, interests and wider life.

The resource comes with a journal template and instructions on how to make it: you’ll just need scissors and little bit of patience to do some folding and snipping!

The end result will be a mini book with one of the Skills Builder Essential Skills on each page and space for young people to record ideas and pictures of how they’ve shown that particular skill.

Skills Snapper Game - The game was made in collaboration with Skills Builder to raise awareness of the 8 essential skills and encourage conversations about their importance in a fun and interactive way.

Young people make their own 'Snappers' (instructions are included) and then work in pairs to ask each other questions about the 8 essential skills. There are three templates available; two which are filled with questions and one which is left blank to encourage young people to think of their own questions.

Skills Diamond - The activity was made in collaboration with Skills Builder to explore the importance of the 8 Essential Skills in different job roles.

Young people will work in pairs to research a specific job role (The instructions include recommended websites to help with this research).  They will then discuss the skills needed for the job and use the Skills Diamond activity to rank the 8 Essential Skills in order of importance.

There is no right or wrong answer with this activity; the key thing is for young people to be able to explain their reasons and give examples of how the skills are important for the job they have chosen.

Not all superheroes wear capes

“Who is your superhero?”

"What do you admire about them?”

“How are you similar to them?”

These are some of the questions young people can explore using this activity. Along the way, they will discover things about themselves too!

A video with more information can be found here.

My multiple intelligences wheel - Based on the theory from Dr Howard Gardener, this worksheet enables young people to discover that there is more than one way to be intelligent….. In fact, there are 8 different ways!!

The worksheet comes with descriptions of each type of intelligence. Young people then colour in their own wheel to create a visual record of their own unique intelligences.

My Skills Checklist - The resource is designed to accompany the Let’s Get Started pack of What’s your strength?® cards that were made in collaboration with Skills Builder to identify the essential skills young people have developed through their experiences, interests and wider life.

After working through the cards, young people can use My Skills Checklist to add words and pictures that represent their life experiences and make a ticklist of their skills. It offers a visual evaluation of their top strengths and help them to identify skills they would like to develop further.

Further guidance can be found in this video tutorial.
