Employer engagement

Get Ahead is a toolkit and resource co-produced with and for disabled young people. The newsletters and magazines will help you navigate the wide range of information and resources that are available in post-16 education, training, and work. It is a platform where young people can have their voice heard and share the many talents they have.

The Black Country Careers Hub have developed a number of resources to support those working with young people with SEND in the different settings.  Many of these resources are featured in the My Skills My Future programme. 

Leicestershire Cares Education team’s info pack about their employability project with visually impaired young people. This pack includes a guide for businesses signposting helpful info and resources on employing people with a visual impairment.

My Employment Passport, winner of the CDI's Post-16 Career Programme of the Year 2022, is a 30-module course that raises the employment aspirations for young people with additional needs whilst inspiring their teachers, tutors, supporters, parents, and future employers too. 

Developed by the National Development Team for Inclusion (NDTI). This resource is focused on employing people with a mental health condition, a learning disability and/or autistic people.

These resources have been developed by South Somerset Partnership as part of a transition project for SEND students. The resources pull together key Preparation for Adulthood information that will enable mainstream, special school and FE Careers Leaders to understand the journey and support available for young people with SEND. 

• This week is aimed at students in KS4 within a SEND setting.

• The challenges are all set out day by day with suggested content but can be adapted to suit your students abilities and needs.

• The timings are flexible and can be adapted, if you want to take longer on a particular challenge you can and you can schedule in breaks whenever is convenient.

A practical guide to help employers provide workplace experiences, including supported internships and supported apprenticeships, for young people with SEND.

Developed by the National SEND Employment Forum these videos are aimed at introducing learners with special educational needs and disabilities (although they are not exclusive to this group) to an array of jobs and sectors.
